Troops Rescue 7 Victims, Foil Abductions in Zamfara

On August 17, 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully thwarted attempts by terrorists to abduct civilians in Zamfara State. In the Gurusu–Anka Road incident, troops pursued the terrorists, leading to the rescue of seven victims, comprising four women and three children, who were unharmed.

In a separate operation in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops engaged terrorists attempting to abduct motorists near Magazu village, forcing them to flee and abandon their captives. Some rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

Earlier that day, troops discovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was deployed to neutralize the device, securing the area and preventing potential casualties among both troops and civilian road users.
