Troops Intercept Explosives for Terrorists in Katsina

The Nigerian military reported that troops from the Joint Task Force North-West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, intercepted 180 units of superpower explosives destined for terrorists in Katsina State. This operation occurred along the Kaura-Zurmi Road in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State during an intelligence-led clearance operation.

Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that a suspect was apprehended while transporting the explosives. Additionally, on 15 August 2026, another suspect was arrested in Gusau, Zamfara State, related to the same explosives supply chain.

On 16 August 2026, troops arrested suspected collaborators of a notorious terrorist kingpin in Kaura Namoda LGA, recovering cash and motorcycles intended for delivery to the kingpin’s camp. Between 17 and 19 August 2026, troops conducted rescue operations that resulted in the recovery of 28 abducted victims from Bukkuyum LGA in Zamfara State, Sabuwa and Kankara LGAs in Katsina State, and Isa LGA in Sokoto State, with all victims handed over to local authorities for reunification with their families.
