Troops Intercept 180 Explosives, Neutralize Terrorists in Zamfara

On August 15, 2026, the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reported the interception of 180 explosive materials allegedly being transported to suspected terrorists in Zamfara State. The operation occurred on August 14, when troops conducted a routine snap check and apprehended a 57-year-old suspect, Sani Umar, who was transporting the explosives from Gusau Local Government Area to Jibia Local Government Area in Katsina State.

The suspect, his vehicle, and the explosives were taken into custody for further investigation. In a separate operation on the same day in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, troops engaged terrorists around Garin Kaso, neutralizing two terrorists and recovering two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles.

The troops also faced an ambush from another group of terrorists but successfully repelled the attack, inflicting further casualties. The Theatre Command stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics and maintain pressure on criminal elements in the North West.
