Troops Neutralize Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Nigeria

Troops of the Nigerian Army, under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, conducted operations in Katsina and Sokoto states, resulting in the neutralization of suspected terrorists and the recovery of weapons. On August 29, in Matazu Local Government Area, troops killed a key terrorist lieutenant named Smally, associated with notorious leader Kachalla Muhammadu Filani.

The operation led to the recovery of three machine guns, two AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition, and six motorcycles. In Sokoto State, troops thwarted an armed group's advance towards Ghandi town on Sunday, following credible intelligence.

The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to retreat, with some sustaining injuries. A subsequent search operation recovered one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and other personal effects.

The ongoing operations aim to sustain pressure on terrorist networks and dismantle their operational capabilities.
