Troops Neutralize Suspected Kidnapper of Prof. Salifu

Troops from Operation Whirl Stroke (OPW) neutralized a suspect linked to the kidnapping of Professor Salifu, who sustained gunshot injuries and later died. The incident occurred on July 2, 2026, along the Wukari-Zakibiam road, near Jotar Village, in Benue State.

Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu reported that the troops acted promptly based on credible intelligence and engaged in a fierce gun battle with the armed suspect, who was ultimately neutralized. Other suspects fled the scene.

The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines. Preliminary indications suggest that the neutralized suspect may have belonged to a gang responsible for a July 1 attack on commuters along the Wukari-Makurdi road.

Major General Mose Gara, the OPW force commander, commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism, urging them to sustain aggressive patrols to pressure criminal elements in the joint operational area across Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa states.
