Trump Commends Tinubu's Leadership Against Terrorism

In a letter dated July 6, 2026, United States President Donald Trump praised Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his decisive leadership in addressing terrorism and violence affecting Christian communities in Nigeria. Trump expressed honor in standing with Tinubu in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing the importance of the US-Nigeria relationship amid rising conflicts in West Africa.

The collaboration has strengthened through the establishment of a Joint Working Group co-headed by the national security advisers of both nations, focusing on training, intelligence sharing, and joint operations. A significant outcome of this partnership was the coordinated attack on ISIS hideouts in the Lake Chad area on May 16, which resulted in the death of ISIS leader Abubakar Al-Minoki.

Additionally, US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Frank Garcia, recently visited Abuja to further enhance cooperation in security and other areas.
