Two Brothers Die While Desilting Well in Rivers State

On Sunday, two brothers and another man tragically died while attempting to desilt an abandoned well in the Aminigboko community of Abua Odual Local Government Area, Rivers State. The Rivers State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Grace Iring Koko, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.

The task involved working in a confined space, which necessitated safety measures such as the use of oxygen masks and proper gas testing to mitigate risks. The incident occurred when the brothers were contacted by the well owner to carry out the desilting job.

One brother entered the well first and began to scream, prompting the other brother and a third man to enter to investigate. Unfortunately, all three became trapped.

Residents of the area expressed concerns about a foul smell they believed to be toxic gas emanating from the site, particularly given the community's proximity to oil production activities.
