Two Men Jailed 24 Years for Fatal Crash Killing Nigerian

Uwai Hussain, 20, and Usmon Mahmood, 23, were sentenced to a total of 24 years and five months in prison for their involvement in a fatal road crash that resulted in the death of Sylvest Abayomi, a UK-based Nigerian, on March 4, 2026. Hussain received an 11-year and eight-month sentence, while Mahmood was sentenced to 12 years and nine months.

Both were found guilty of aiding and abetting causing death by dangerous driving. The Greater Manchester Police's investigation revealed that the pair had been driving recklessly around South Manchester, often exceeding speeds of 100 mph in a Volkswagen Golf, which Hussain drove through a red light, striking Abayomi's vehicle.

Footage captured them driving at speeds up to 139 mph and discussing plans to flee the scene after the crash. Abayomi was reportedly entering the junction on a green light when he was struck.

The police responded swiftly, arresting the suspects within 12 minutes of the incident.
