Security Guards Sentenced to Life for Raping Minor

Jame Sule, 30, and Adamu Yau, 25, were sentenced to life imprisonment without the option of a fine by Justice S.M. Mayana of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja for the serial rape of a six-year-old girl.

The abuse occurred from 2016 until 2022, when the victim was 12 years old. The Nigerian Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) disclosed that the victim was repeatedly raped by Sule, who had been engaged by her grandmother to repair a broken toilet.

Sule threatened the victim with a knife to ensure her silence. Yau was later recruited by Sule to participate in the abuse.

The case was reported to NAPTIP after the victim's parents noticed behavioral changes in her. The prosecution presented five witnesses, including the victim's mother, and medical evidence showing the victim's hymen was breached.

NAPTIP's Director General, Hajia Binta Adamu Bello, commended the judiciary for the judgment, emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement of laws against sexual violence.
