UAE Waives Overstay Fines for Affected Travelers

The UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has announced the waiver of overstay fines for travelers who could not exit the country due to airspace closures and flight suspensions. This decision applies to individuals on visit visas, tourist visas, exit permits, and residents who canceled their residency status in preparation for travel.

The exemption is valid for fines that accumulated on or after February 28, 2026. The core condition for this exemption is that the traveler was genuinely unable to depart due to flight cancellations or rescheduling caused by exceptional regional circumstances.

The measure aims to alleviate the legal status of affected individuals without imposing additional financial burdens. Specialized teams at airports and Customer Happiness Centres are actively processing cases related to these disruptions.

The authority emphasizes the UAE's commitment to a humanitarian approach during emergencies, urging affected individuals to rely on official channels for updates and guidance.
