UEFA Bans Prestianni for Homophobic Remarks Against Vinicius

UEFA has announced a six-match ban on Argentine international midfielder Prestianni due to his use of homophobic language directed at Brazilian player Vinicius during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg match. The incident occurred after Vinicius scored a goal, leading to accusations of racist abuse from Prestianni.

Following an investigation by UEFA's Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body (CEDB), it was determined that Prestianni would serve an immediate three-match ban, with an additional three-match suspension applicable over the next two years. This provision prevents the 20-year-old midfielder from participating in the second leg of the match.

Furthermore, UEFA's disciplinary body has decided that the ban will also apply to UEFA competitions and national team matches, with FIFA being requested to extend the suspension globally. Consequently, Prestianni, who made his Argentina debut in November, will miss two matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Benfica has confirmed receipt of UEFA's decision but has not indicated any intent to appeal.
