UEFA Calls for FIFA President Infantino to Resign

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has reportedly urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign immediately due to escalating disagreements regarding the governance and commercial direction of world football. According to a report by The Telegraph Football, if Infantino does not step down, UEFA may consider initiating a vote of no confidence against him.

This demand arises amid rising tensions between FIFA and UEFA over various policy decisions, including the expansion of FIFA competitions and the international match calendar. Recently, FIFA abandoned a controversial proposal to commercialize the FIFA World Cup, which faced significant opposition and led to the resignation of FIFA Senior Adviser Carlos Cordeiro.

Infantino has been FIFA president since 2016, succeeding Sepp Blatter. His tenure has seen several reforms, but his leadership has faced criticism from football administrators and European leaders.

A formal move against Infantino would require substantial backing from FIFA’s member associations, complicating any potential removal process.
