University of Ibadan Launches Roadmap for Medical Research

On Wednesday, the University of Ibadan unveiled a comprehensive roadmap to reposition its medical research institute, IAMRAT, during a two-day retreat held at the Digital Park in Ibadan, Oyo State. The event, themed "Re-align, Re-energize, Re-position," aimed to adapt to the changing realities of global medical research.

Prof. Ik Ajayi, the director of IAMRAT, emphasized the need for government reforms to increase funding and foster stronger collaborations to address Nigeria's growing healthcare challenges. The retreat brought together university management, former provosts, directors, policymakers, and alumni to evaluate IAMRAT's 2021-2025 strategic plan against leading African research institutes.

Prof. Temidayo Ogundiran highlighted the importance of honest self-evaluation and nurturing young scientists. Former director-general of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Prof. Babatunde Salako, stressed that Nigeria cannot achieve meaningful healthcare improvements without stronger investments in research and innovation.
