Blogger Maureen Badejo Granted N50m Bail in Defamation Case

Maureen Badejo, a UK-based Nigerian blogger, was granted bail of N50 million by Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos. The bail conditions require her to provide two suitable sureties, one of whom must be a family member or a civil servant at grade level 14, and to meet specific property tax requirements.

Badejo is facing charges of conspiracy and defamation, stemming from allegations made in November 2021 regarding defamatory statements published on her YouTube channel and Facebook platform against Johnson Suleman, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries. The prosecution, led by Morufu Animashaun, claims that Badejo falsely portrayed Suleman as a cultist, rapist, assassin, and ritualist, which could incite fear and harm.

She pleaded not guilty to the 11-count charge and was remanded in custody until her bail application was heard. The court scheduled further hearings for June 1, 2026, and ordered Badejo to surrender her passport and refrain from publishing any online content related to the case.
