UK Evacuates Humanitarian Worker After Ebola Exposure

The United Kingdom has evacuated a humanitarian worker from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to London following a potential healthcare-related exposure to Ebola. This precautionary evacuation was organized by the UK government in collaboration with the National Health Service, the DRC government, and international health partners.

The individual, a UK resident working with a humanitarian organization involved in the Ebola outbreak response, is not showing any symptoms and is reported to be well. The evacuation was conducted via a chartered flight, and the individual is currently being assessed and monitored in isolation by infectious disease specialists at a London hospital.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) stated that the incubation period for Ebola ranges from 2 to 21 days, during which the individual will be closely monitored and required to isolate. UKHSA emphasized that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in the UK and that the risk to the general public remains low.

Richard Pebody, Director of Epidemic and Emerging Infections at UKHSA, reiterated that the evacuation was a precautionary measure.
