Russia Expels UK Diplomat Over Espionage Allegations

Russia has expelled UK diplomat Albertu Gerhardu Jans van Rensburg, a 29-year-old embassy secretary, following allegations of espionage. The Federal Security Service (FSB) reported that Jans van Rensburg was engaged in subversive intelligence activities that threatened Russia's security.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned the UK's chargé d'affaires to warn that the United Kingdom should not retaliate. Jans van Rensburg has been ordered to leave Russia within two weeks.

This incident marks a continuation of diplomatic tensions between Moscow and London, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict related to the war in Ukraine. The expulsion follows a pattern of tit-for-tat diplomatic responses, with both countries having expelled multiple embassy staff over the past decade due to espionage accusations.
