UK MPs Demand Action from Tinubu on Christian Killings

Members of Parliament (MPs) in the United Kingdom are calling on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to confront Nigerian President Bola Tinubu during his upcoming state visit. This visit marks the first by a Nigerian president in 37 years.

The MPs, part of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Freedom of Religion or Belief, are particularly concerned about the ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria, which has been exacerbated by attacks from Islamist terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province. The group, led by Chairman Jim Shannon, has urged the UK government to pressure Tinubu to protect human rights in Nigeria.

They also demand clarity on the case of Leah Sharibu, one of the 110 schoolgirls kidnapped in 2018. The MPs emphasize that human rights obligations should be a fundamental aspect of future diplomatic and trade discussions.
