Tinubu Enjoys Unrestricted US Transit During UNGA

Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, the Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, confirmed that President Bola Tinubu and his family enjoy unimpeded transit in the United States while attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He stated that the Nigerian Mission in New York has received no notification of any movement restrictions from the U.S. government.

Citing Section 11 of the 1947 UN-U.S. Agreement, Ibrahim explained that representatives of member states and their families are protected from transit impediments.

He noted that attendance at the UNGA is a national priority and that over 60% of the current speaking list comprises vice presidents and foreign ministers. Ibrahim recalled a past incident involving a former Nigerian president who faced restrictions due to unproven drug-related allegations.

He stressed that allegations do not constitute a crime and urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu's economic transformation agenda.
