UNHCR Chief Barham Salih Visits Sudanese Refugees in Ethiopia

Barham Salih, the Chief of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), visited the Ura Refugee Settlement in Ethiopia's Benishangul Gumuz region to assess the living conditions of Sudanese refugees who have fled civil war in neighboring Sudan. During his visit, Salih highlighted the importance of the settlement as a model for refugee inclusion and integration.

He commended the Ethiopian government for its Maketet program, which aims to provide a roadmap for moving beyond long-term camp dependency and fostering self-reliance among refugees. Salih's visit coincided with World Refugee Day, emphasizing the fundamental human rights of those seeking safety and dignity.

Rasha Moham, a Sudanese refugee, expressed her support for the Maketet roadmap, viewing it as a positive shift towards social inclusion for refugees. Salih's visit underscores the ongoing efforts to support thousands of Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia.
