University of Abuja Promotes 34 Academic Staff Members

The University of Abuja has officially promoted 34 members of its academic staff to the ranks of professor and associate professor, as part of an initiative to recognize excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship. The decision was made during the 101st regular meeting of the governing council held on July 10-11, 2026, and was endorsed by the director of information, Dr. Habib Yakoob.

The promotions included 17 senior academics elevated to the rank of professor and 17 promoted to associate professor. The council's approval was based on favorable external assessment reports, considering the candidates' scholarly contributions across various academic disciplines, including community medicine, veterinary medicine, engineering, religious studies, guidance and counseling, library and information science, business administration, and physics.

The promotions took effect in October 2025. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, described the promotions as a testament to the commitment to academic excellence and encouraged the newly promoted staff to continue their service to the university and society.
