Armed Herders Kill Four Police Officers in Benue Attack

On the night of September 10, 2026, Ayilamo community in the Tombo Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area, Benue State, was attacked by approximately 200 suspected armed herders. The assault resulted in the deaths of four police officers and seven civilians, as confirmed by DSP Peter Aondongu, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command.

Residents reported that the attackers invaded from Alufu Road in neighboring Taraba State, shooting at residents and setting houses ablaze. A detachment of Mobile Policemen confronted the attackers, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Despite the police response, four bodies of officers and community members were later recovered. The civilian casualties included notable community members and two children.

The police confirmed a total of eleven fatalities, while local accounts initially suggested a higher death toll.
