UNICEF and Airtel Expand Digital Learning in Nigeria

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Airtel Africa, and the Federal Government of Nigeria have expanded access to free digital learning and skills development to nearly 2,000 schools across Nigeria, impacting approximately one million students and over 20,000 teachers. This initiative, announced in a statement following a joint delegation visit to schools in Lagos and Abuja, aims to improve digital education access, enhance teachers' capabilities, and provide young people with employability and entrepreneurship skills.
The delegation, led by Garreth Spillane, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Airtel Africa, visited various educational institutions where digital learning tools were demonstrated. More than 19,000 teachers have received digital literacy training under this partnership.
The initiative also aims to eliminate financial barriers to digital education by offering free access to selected learning platforms through zero-rated data services. UNICEF Deputy Representative in Nigeria, Rownak Khan, emphasized the importance of ensuring that marginalized groups, including girls and children with disabilities, benefit from this initiative.
