UNICEF and Bauchi Launch Climate Resilient Project

UNICEF, in collaboration with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, initiated the Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Basic Services (CRIBS) project aimed at renovating and upgrading 15 primary healthcare centers and nine primary schools in five local government areas. The project was officially launched at the Governor's House in Bauchi.

Governor Bala expressed concern over the devastating impact of climate change on children, noting that it directly threatens their ability to survive, grow, and thrive. He highlighted that children are particularly vulnerable to environmental shocks, such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves, which exacerbate health issues like cholera and malaria.

The governor pointed out that Nigeria remains one of the most climate-vulnerable countries globally, with 10 percent of the world's children living in high-risk climate zones. He lamented the effects of recurrent flooding and heavy rainfall, which have led to school closures and destruction of educational facilities, denying children access to learning.
