UNIJOS Students Protest Power Outage, Demand Action

Students at the University of Jos staged a protest on Tuesday due to a prolonged power outage that has left their hostels without electricity for over a week. The situation has disrupted their studies and basic amenities, including water supply, which relies on electric-powered pumps.

During the protest, student Felix Bala expressed the urgency of restoring electricity, noting that the absence of power has made life unbearable. Despite repeated complaints to university authorities, no concrete action has been taken to resolve the issue.

Bala warned that protests would continue until their demands are met. The power outage has also affected water supply, leaving toilets unclean and students without access to running water.

An anonymous off-campus student appealed for the protest to end, but efforts to address the issue with the university administration, including the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Chris Piwuna, were unsuccessful.
