UNILAG Don Advocates for Carbon Reutilisation, Systemic Reform

Professor Mohammed Usman, a Process Systems Engineering expert at the University of Lagos, advocated for a shift in perspective towards carbon, labeling it as a regenerative ally rather than a threat. In his inaugural lecture titled "Carbon: Truly Guilty as Charged?

A Perspective from a Process Systems Engineer for Sustainability," Usman emphasized that carbon has been wrongly vilified in the global climate discourse. He highlighted the need for systemic reform and responsible resource consumption, stating that carbon is the primary driver of environmental degradation and climate change.

Usman urged individuals, industries, and governments to focus on resource efficiency rather than demonizing specific resources like carbon. He proposed a move towards 100% carbon utilization and called on the Nigerian government to enforce resource footprint assessments across policy areas.

Usman's lecture emphasized the importance of recognizing carbon as a vital and manageable resource to address environmental challenges effectively.
