UNIZIK Suspends Lecturer Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka has suspended Prof. Ifeanyi Odinye, a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, for three months and placed him on half salary due to allegations of sexual misconduct and violations of the university’s regulations. This decision was announced in a press statement by Aloysius Attah, the Director of Information and Public Relations, following an interim report from a six-member Special Investigative Panel chaired by Prof. Emmanuel Obidimma, Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies.

The panel submitted its preliminary findings to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on August 21, 2026. The allegations surfaced after a viral video showed students physically confronting the lecturer for allegedly molesting a female student.

The university condemned the violence and initiated a comprehensive investigation. Additionally, the student involved, Chikamso Okechukwu, has been referred to the student’s examination misconduct committee for further action.
