Nigerian Leaders Stand with Cuba Against US Sanctions

In Abuja, a significant gathering took place where Nigerian dignitaries, including Rauf Aregbesola and Femi Falana, expressed solidarity with Cuba in light of the ongoing U.S. blockade and sanctions. The event highlighted the humanitarian crisis faced by Cuba, which has been exacerbated by economic sanctions that limit access to essential supplies.

Aregbesola emphasized that no African nation, particularly Nigeria, should ignore Cuba's plight, noting that countries like Angola, South Africa, and Zimbabwe achieved independence partly due to Cuba's support. The attendees, which included members from the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, called for the removal of Cuba from the U.S. terrorist sponsorship list.

They underscored Cuba's contributions to global humanitarian efforts, particularly in Africa, and condemned the U.S. foreign policy that they believe perpetuates suffering. The Cuban ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Moral Palmero, also praised the African Union's stance on U.S.-Cuba relations.
