US Delivers Military Equipment to Nigerian Air Force

On September 10, 2023, the United States announced an increase in military support for Nigeria with the delivery of military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force. This delivery was made under a Foreign Military Sales agreement, as disclosed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on its official website.

A US Air Force C-17 military transport aircraft delivered the equipment on September 6, 2023. Although AFRICOM did not specify the nature or quantity of the equipment, it emphasized that the consignment is part of an existing defense arrangement aimed at supporting Nigeria's counterterrorism efforts.

The delivery follows a meeting led by Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, with a Nigerian delegation at the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group in Washington, DC, where strategic bilateral discussions took place. The Nigerian military has been actively engaged in operations against terrorist groups, particularly in the North-East, and the latest US delivery is expected to enhance the operational capacity of the Nigerian Air Force.
