US Embassy Shifts Visa Processing from Abuja to Lagos

Effective August 1, 2026, the US Embassy in Abuja has stopped processing routine visa applications for Nigerians, shifting all such services to the US Consulate General in Lagos. This change was communicated through a visa advisory issued by US authorities.

Applicants who had already scheduled appointments at the Abuja embassy will still have their appointments honored, although some may experience changes in their appointment dates. Those affected are advised to monitor their email accounts for updates regarding any rescheduled appointments.

The advisory explicitly states that routine visa services are now exclusively available at the Consulate General in Lagos. Additionally, applicants holding unused and valid MRV visa application fee receipts can utilize them to book new appointments at the Lagos consulate.
