Trump Proposes Renaming New Mexico to 'New America'

On a social media post, United States President Donald Trump suggested renaming the state of New Mexico to "New America," claiming he had received numerous suggestions for the change. He described the new name as "so much more prestigious and beautiful for the people of that potentially incredible State." The White House supported this proposal by sharing an image that crossed out "Mexico" and replaced it with "America." However, New Mexico's Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham swiftly rejected the idea, stating that the name has historical significance that predates the United States.

She accused Trump of attempting to distract the public from pressing issues, such as rising petrol prices. Reports indicated that the name change suggestion originated as an internet hoax before being amplified by Trump.

This proposal follows a series of similar name-change ideas associated with Trump's administration, including suggestions to rename the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Mexico.
