Rivers Deputy Governor Advocates for Women's Empowerment

At the African Women Lawyers Association, Nigeria 2026 Annual Parley Conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu, called on women to view themselves as agents of transformation rather than mere beneficiaries of empowerment. Represented by Dr Josephine Chukuigwe, Odu highlighted the need for a supportive environment for women to achieve their potential.

She praised the AWLA for its commitment to advancing women's rights and welfare and encouraged its members to mentor younger generations, support women-owned businesses, and promote education and leadership opportunities for women. Odu also congratulated Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association, on her recent election victory.

She stated that empowering women is essential for stronger families, communities, and economies, and called for a society where women can lead without discrimination and every child can grow in dignity and opportunity.
