Venezuela Rejects Trump's 51st State Proposal

Delcy Rodríguez, the Vice President of Venezuela, firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that Venezuela could become the 51st state of the United States.

Speaking on Monday during a report at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Rodríguez insisted that Venezuela remains strongly committed to its independence and sovereignty. She emphasized that the idea of joining the United States is not entertained, as Venezuelans are deeply attached to their historical struggle for independence.

Despite the political tensions between Caracas and Washington, Rodríguez reiterated the Venezuelan government's focus on maintaining diplomatic engagement with the U.S. This comes in the context of a shift in relations following the removal of former leader Nicolás Maduro and the U.S.-led intervention earlier in the year.

Rodríguez's administration is pursuing a diplomatic cooperation agenda with the U.S. while continuing to disagree on key political and economic issues, including a long-standing territorial dispute with Guyana over the oil-rich Essequibo region.
