Ezekwesili Critiques Politicians Over Election Focus

Obiageli Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, criticized Nigerian politicians for their focus on upcoming elections rather than addressing pressing issues faced by citizens. In an interview with News Central Television, she expressed concern over insecurity and governance as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

Ezekwesili stated that politicians who prioritize their immediate political interests cannot provide effective leadership. She questioned the substantial funds allegedly spent on combating terrorism, demanding transparency on the outcomes of such expenditures.

Ezekwesili remarked that the government treats citizen safety with insufficient seriousness, warning that this could embolden threats against the nation. She supported the establishment of state police but emphasized the need for clear mandates among security agencies.

Furthermore, she criticized the Nigeria Police Force's inability to fulfill its role, leading to increased military involvement in internal security. Ezekwesili also condemned the National Assembly for neglecting citizens' interests, labeling lawmakers as indifferent to the public's needs.
