Sanwo-Olu Assesses Flood Damage in Lagos Communities

On Wednesday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited Ogombo in the Eti Osa Local Government Area to assess the impact of recent flooding caused by persistent rainfall. Accompanied by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab, the governor toured affected areas, including Monastery Road and Sangotedo.

The team encountered knee-deep floodwaters and engaged with local residents and leaders. Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the challenges posed by extreme weather events that have overwhelmed the drainage infrastructure, leading to temporary flooding in various parts of the state, including Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ikeja.

In response, he approved immediate dredging and maintenance of 28 primary drainage channels across Lagos to improve water flow and reduce future flooding risks. The governor urged residents to remain calm and assured them that the state government is implementing long-term flood control measures.
