Vigilantes Allegedly Kill Mentally Challenged Student in Kogi

Andrew Amehson Aziko, a final-year student at Prince Abubakar Audu University, was allegedly killed by local vigilantes at Nana College of Health in Okpo, Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State. The incident reportedly occurred on April 28, 2026, when Andrew, who had mental health challenges, attempted to gain unlawful access to the school premises.

Eyewitness accounts describe him being beaten with a baton and shot multiple times in the head, abdomen, and back by security personnel. Danjuma Onoja, a former secretary of Olamaboro LGA, brought attention to the incident, urging local authorities to investigate thoroughly.

Andrew's father, a known socialite and former lecturer, confirmed his son's mental health issues and expressed grief over the brutal act. The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Nasir Bello Kankarofi, stated that a preliminary investigation is underway, with efforts to apprehend those involved in the extrajudicial killing.
