Shettima Praises SpaceX for Enhancing Nigeria's Disaster Response

On Tuesday, during a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima commended SpaceX's Starlink for its contributions to Nigeria's emergency and disaster response efforts. He highlighted the partnership with Starlink, which provides the world's largest satellite internet constellation, as vital for enhancing the National Emergency Management Agency's (NEMA) response times and coordination in disaster management.

Shettima noted the importance of effective emergency interventions, especially during periods of flooding. NEMA's Director General, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, expressed gratitude for the donation of high-speed satellite internet hardware and data plans, which include 91 standard mini boxes aimed at addressing challenges in underserved areas.

The agency plans to deploy 50 designed flashpoints across the country to improve its command and control capabilities. Peter Kroetger from SpaceX commended Nigeria's disaster preparedness despite technological challenges.
