Ernest Kofi Davis Elected WAEC Vice-Chairman in Ghana

Ernest Kofi Davis has been elected as the Vice-Chairman of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) during the council's 74th annual meeting held in Ghana. The meeting was declared open by President John Dramani Mahama, who was represented by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

Mahama congratulated WAEC on its 74th anniversary and highlighted the council's success in maintaining educational standards and credible examinations across member countries for over seven decades. He warned of the rising threat of examination malpractice and certificate falsification, urging stakeholders to defend the integrity of the council's examinations.

Ghana's Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, reaffirmed the importance of examinations as tools for human capital development and economic growth. The council announced that Ghana would resume participation in the international version of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2026.

Additionally, three Ghanaian candidates received WAEC International Excellence Awards for outstanding performance in the 2025 WASSCE. The next WAEC annual meeting will be hosted by Nigeria in March 2027.
