WAEC Workers to Protest Over Labor Issues Nationwide

Workers of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), organized by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), are set to commence a nationwide protest on May 13, 2026. This action arises from allegations of unfair labor practices, particularly concerning recruitment procedures and staff welfare.

The protest was initially scheduled to begin on May 12 but was shifted due to unsuccessful negotiations with WAEC management, led by Dr. Amo Dangut.

NASU has raised several grievances, including the suspension of a recent staff upgrade program and the introduction of a minimum net pay policy. They accuse WAEC management of anti-worker policies and irregular administrative actions.

In response, WAEC management, represented by Mr. Eucharia Onodu, denied any wrongdoing and stated that several concerns had already been addressed.

The council has also defended its actions regarding the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and emphasized its commitment to resolving disputes with staff unions.
