Kano Commissioner Condemns Attack on Journalists at APC Rally

Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, condemned the attack on journalists that occurred after they covered the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Saturday. In a statement signed by Sani Abba Yola, the Director of Public Enlightenment in the ministry, Waiya expressed sympathy for the management and staff of Radio Nigeria, Pyramid FM Kano, whose vehicle was attacked during the incident.

He described the attack as unfortunate and concerning, asserting that journalists must be protected from intimidation and violence while performing their duties. Waiya condemned the use of machetes and knives by the attackers, labeling it as unacceptable and a serious threat to the safety of media professionals and the public.

He urged security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and prosecute those responsible. Additionally, he called on political parties and stakeholders to respect journalists' rights and safety, especially with the upcoming 2027 general elections.
