Ilorin Central Mosque Faces Water Supply Challenges

The Ilorin Central Mosque Committee, represented by Secretary Alhaji Shehu Abdulgafar, disclosed during a joint stakeholder meeting that they have drilled over 30 boreholes to address water supply issues amidst financial challenges. The mosque's location has made it difficult to find a sustainable water source, leading to multiple unsuccessful drilling attempts.

However, an engineering team led by Engr. Muideen Bello successfully located water, allowing operations to begin.

The committee is also proposing the construction of a N1.1 billion student hostel at the University of Ilorin, facilitated by high-level engagement with stakeholders, including Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who has pledged N5 million monthly for mosque maintenance. The mosque's monthly maintenance costs have risen to N5 million due to inflation and increased energy costs.

The committee is appealing for continued support to maintain the mosque, which is considered a heritage site for the Muslim community in Ilorin.
