APC Withdraws from Oyo Local Government Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) declared on Thursday, stating it will not participate in the forthcoming local government elections in Oyo State, which are scheduled for December 2026. The announcement was made by Wasiu Olawale Sadar, who signed the statement from the party's public secretariat in Ibadan.

The APC criticized the decision to conduct the elections, labeling it as illegitimate and self-serving. The party alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde does not believe in local government autonomy and is attempting to impose loyalty among local government officials.

The APC expressed concerns that the current situation at the grassroots level would worsen, as the people have been deprived of local governance for seven years. They emphasized the need for the third tier of government to regain its freedom, asserting that the governor's actions undermine democratic principles and the political power of the people.
