Tinubu Vows to Fight for Power Ahead of 2027 Election

President Bola Tinubu declared his intention to fiercely contest the 2027 presidential election, stating he will not surrender power without a political fight. During a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu expressed readiness to battle his major challengers, Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and Peter Obi of the National Democratic Congress.

He emphasized that the political contest would be tough, asserting, “We will wrestle each other to the finishing point.” Tinubu defended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against claims of bias, insisting it remains neutral. He also highlighted his administration's achievements, particularly the uninterrupted academic calendar in public universities, attributing this to the absence of strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities since he took office.

Tinubu claimed his government has stabilized the economy and is working towards improving the quality of life for Nigerians, stating, “I inherited it. I didn’t run away.”.
