Akume Affirms Tinubu's Commitment to Political Pluralism

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu's administration is neither seeking nor supportive of a one-party state. In a statement released on Wednesday by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga, Akume emphasized the government's commitment to political pluralism and democratic competition.

He highlighted the administration's respect for the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its dedication to ensuring credible elections and lawful opposition. Akume pointed out that the registration of 21 political parties by INEC is evidence of political pluralism in Nigeria.

He reiterated the government's commitment to constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and equal rights for all citizens, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation. Furthermore, Akume mentioned ongoing dialogues with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria and other stakeholders to address national issues, underscoring the importance of collaboration with faith communities and civil society in promoting peace and national development.
