Trader Stabbed to Death by Wheelbarrow Pusher in Rivers

On February 14, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM, a trader identified as Higightor Wenem, aged 30, was allegedly stabbed to death by a wheelbarrow pusher named Zakara Afaaruwu at the fruit market in Oil Mill, Rumuokwurusi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The altercation began when Wenem requested the removal of Afaaruwu's wheelbarrow, which was obstructing the market space.

Following the argument, Afaaruwu allegedly stabbed Wenem, who was immediately rushed to a military hospital where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. The incident sparked tension among members of the Hausa community in the market.

Rivers State Police Command's CSP Grace Iring Koko confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue. The deceased's body has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
