Pete Edochie Names Awolowo His Favorite Politician

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie stated that his favorite Nigerian politician is the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, citing Awolowo's vision and developmental initiatives as distinguishing factors. In an interview with Isbae U on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, Edochie expressed admiration for the Yoruba people and reflected on his acting career.

He clarified that he is not interested in politics but holds Awolowo in high regard, stating, “I am not into politics, but if you asked me who is my favourite politician, I will tell you it is Awolowo.” Edochie praised Awolowo's ability to articulate his plans and funding strategies, noting that no other politician has matched this clarity. He credited Awolowo with introducing significant initiatives in Nigeria, such as television in 1959 and free primary education.

Edochie lamented that Awolowo never became president, expressing regret over this missed opportunity for Nigeria.
