Seriake Dickson Rejects APC Offer to Preserve Multiparty System

Seriake Dickson, the National leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former governor of Bayelsa State, explained his decision to decline an offer to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that he did not want Nigeria to operate under a one-party system.

Dickson made these remarks in Abuja on Thursday after being awarded the Leadership Newspaper 2026 Politician of the Year. He expressed gratitude for the recognition, which he viewed as a significant acknowledgment for the NDC and its supporters.

Dickson noted that the NDC was established during a challenging time for political platforms in Nigeria, particularly following the weakening of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party. Instead of joining the APC, he chose to create an alternative political platform to maintain a multiparty system.

He emphasized that the NDC has quickly evolved into a major opposition party, attracting various political figures and supporters nationwide.
