Seriake Dickson Rejects APC to Form New Political Platform

Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former governor of Bayelsa State, articulated his reasons for not joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He expressed his opposition to the emergence of a one-party political system in Nigeria during a visit from the management of Leadership Newspaper.

Dickson noted that the crisis within his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the uncertainty surrounding opposition politics prompted him to establish the NDC instead of defecting to the APC. He emphasized the importance of preserving political competition and providing an alternative platform for Nigerians to engage in the democratic process.

Dickson stated that the NDC has grown into a significant opposition platform in a short time, asserting that they have built a formidable party capable of challenging the ruling party. His comments come amid ongoing political realignments as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.
