Buratai: Military Alone Can't Solve Nigeria's Insecurity

In a recent interview, former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd) stated that relying solely on military efforts is insufficient to tackle Nigeria's insecurity challenges. He argued that the fight against insurgency must involve all sectors of the country, highlighting the need for economic growth and social programs.

Buratai pointed out that while troops are actively engaged in operations across various flashpoints, the government must also focus on developing social programs to address the underlying issues of unemployment, poverty, and poor infrastructure. He recalled Nigeria's national security strategy from 2019, which provided a broad plan for addressing these issues.

Buratai stressed that improving infrastructure, particularly roads in conflict zones, is crucial for military effectiveness and reducing risks for personnel. He urged state governments to take stronger actions to address the root causes of insecurity, particularly through youth development and job creation initiatives.
