Labour Party Leader Urges Nigerian National Assembly to Enact New Electoral Laws for Enhanced Transparency

Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel, a prominent figure in the Labour Party, has urged the Nigerian National Assembly to promptly pass new electoral laws to rectify existing flaws in the electoral framework.

He emphasized the need for clear, precise, and technically sound legislation to prevent manipulation and disputes in elections. Dr.

Emmanuel highlighted deficiencies in the current electoral laws, such as vague language, weak definitions, and structural gaps, which have led to conflicts and legal uncertainties. He proposed key reforms, including mandatory electronic transmission of poll results, simplification of collation processes, and stricter criteria for candidate qualification.

Dr. Emmanuel also advocated for the involvement of labor and professional bodies like the NLC, TUC, NBA, MAN, and NACCIMA in the electoral reform process.

His ultimate goal is to restore public trust in the electoral system and strengthen democracy in Nigeria.
