Davido Discusses Family Tradition of Studying Abroad

Nigerian afrobeats singer Davido revealed in an interview that studying abroad has been a longstanding tradition in his family, initiated by his grandfather, a senator who ensured his children studied outside Nigeria. Davido mentioned that his father attended Bowling Green University in Kentucky, continuing the family's legacy of overseas education.

He stated, “This has been going on for generations,” and noted that wealthy Africans often send their children to Western schools. Davido also shared details about his parents, who met in London, with his mother hailing from Edo State and his father being Yoruba with Igbo roots.

His mother pursued her postgraduate studies in the United States, specifically at Clark University. Davido emphasized that America has always been integral to his family's educational journey, contributing to his exposure to diverse cultures and experiences that have influenced his personal life and music career.
